Getting Started with CRM Ads and Retarget Based On Email Address

By including data-driven advertising in your existing marketing strategy, you can truly reach customers online, wherever they are. Emarsys ad solutions allow you to create highly relevant and targeted advertisements using first-party data. Ultimately, the goal is to boost retention, customer reach, and revenue.

To help you get started with your CRM ads, we’ve put together specific instructions to connect your Facebook Ads and Google Ads accounts with the Emarsys platform.

The only pre-requisites are to have the CRM ads feature activated by Emarsys Support, and to have the right segments set up for your ad campaigns. You can then integrate with any of the supported networks by following the instructions below. If you are using an agency instead of doing it yourself, we have included instructions for them where appropriate.

Getting Started with Facebook Ads

If you do not already have a Facebook Ads account, you can read more on setting one up and managing your budget in the Facebook documentation.

What to Check Before You Start

  • Make sure the account name and business name are descriptive, otherwise the numeric Account ID will be used when adding the Facebook Ad Account in Emarsys.
  • You must agree to the Facebook Custom Audience Terms before you can activate an audience.
  • If you do not already have a Facebook fan page, you should create one, otherwise you will not be able to display ads in the News Feed.

Connecting Your Facebook Account

To connect your Facebook account to Emarsys CRM Ads, first log into Facebook with a user who has Advertiser or Admin permission for your Facebook Ads account. If you are using an agency for Facebook advertising, you can either ask them to give your Facebook user this permission, or create an Emarsys user for them and ask them to make the connection.

Then proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the Campaigns menu, CRM Ads, and open the Settings tab.

  1. Click the Create New Connection button, and select Facebook in the dropdown. A Facebook dialog box will appear. Click Okay to approve the CRM Ads app.

  1. Click Okay to let the CRM Ads app manage your Facebook Ads.

  1. Select one Ads account that you wish to use for advertising using CRM Ads.

  1. Once you have connected to this account, you can go back and connect to other Ads accounts, if you have them.

You can now continue to connect your Google account, or start creating your CRM Ads audiences.

Getting Started with Google Ads

If you do not already have a Google AdWords account, you can read more on setting one up in the Google documentation.

What to Check Before You Start

  • Make sure that you have at the right permission level for this account to manage ad campaigns.
  • You will also need a general opt-out landing page so that users can use to block your adverts on Google’s Ad Preferences pages.

Connecting Your Google Account

To connect your Google account to Emarsys CRM Ads, first make sure that your Google user has Standard or Administrative permission for your Google Ads account.

If you are using an agency for Google advertising, you can either ask them to give your Google user this permission, or create an Emarsys user for them and ask them to make the connection.

Then proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the Campaigns menu, CRM Ads, and open the Settings tab.

  1. Click the Create New Connection button and select Google in the dropdown. A Google dialog box will appear.

  1. Click Allow to approve the CRM Ads app.
